Senior Teams | June 15-16

14 Jun 2019 by Northern Football Netball League

The selected teams have been released for this week’s NFNL senior football matches in Sockit2MND Round.

Northcote Park has named Ash Close for its clash with Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 ladder-leader Greensborough at Bill Lawry Oval, although Nick Carter is one of four outs.

It will be the first time Close plays alongside Jackson Starcevich since Round 4 – with the Cougars unbeaten in the four games the duo have played together this year.

Greensborough regains ruckman Liam Read from injury as it hunts an eighth-straight victory.

West Preston-Lakeside and Montmorency have both made significant inclusions ahead of their meeting at J.E. Moore Park.

2018 best and fairest Sam Glover returns for the reigning premier following four games with Collingwood’s VFL side – where he has been named among the best players three times.

The Magpies’ bye in the VFL means Michael Marotta will also return for the Roosters, while Nicholas Kempe has also been added after missing the Round 7 win over Lower Plenty.

Montmorency has named Ben Walton for his first game since Round 1. He will be joined in the Magpies’ line-up by midfielder Stephen McCallum and key defender Michael Fitz-Gerald.

Bundoora has received a welcome boost ahead of its match against Hurstbridge at Yulong Reserve, with Luke Collins and Nathan Thomas both returning.

Collins hasn’t played since the Round 1 defeat at Northcote Park, while Thomas has been one of the club’s most consistent players in 2019 – booting 10 goals from the midfield.

Hurstbridge regains key forward Bailey Jordan, but will be without representative midfielder and former Bulls premiership player Jack Furlong.

Jack Blair and Matthew Cecchin will both miss Heidelberg’s trip to Montmorency South Oval to take on Lower Plenty, although Christian Buykx-Smith and Fletcher McIvor both return.

There are also plenty of big names among the team changes in A Plus Labour Solutions Division 2.

Adam Oxley will play his second game for Eltham when the Panthers host Thomastown at Eltham Central Park, where the Bears have lost both Salvatore Mamone and Sashe Spiroski.

Banyule star goal kicker James Kroussoratis returns from injury for the club’s trip to Whittlesea, where he will play his first game since Anzac Day. Kroussoratis is joined in the ladder-leader’s side by Riley Keath and Jake Truefeldt, although Coaches MVP leader Brent Stanton and Ricky Dyson are among the outs.

Andrew Lovett and Max Maynard have both been named by the Fitzroy Stars ahead of their trip to Whatmough Park to take on St Mary’s. The Burra will be without Daniel Castagnini and Raygan Tate.

Meanwhile, Watsonia regains key forward Allan Young for its match against Diamond Creek at A.K. Lines Reserve, where the Creekers have added Oliver Stapleton and Ryan Pingree.

All Division 1 and Division 2 men’s clubs are able to select a 23rd Player for this weekend’s round of matches. The 23rd Player must be an under-19 eligible player and can’t have previously played more than two senior games.

In Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3, Jake Potter returns for South Morang’s important clash against Heidelberg West, where a top-four spot is on the line. The Hawks will be without Ben Fogarty and Billy Wright, but Luke McKenna is back in the senior side.

Josh Delaney and Matthew Campbell have been named for Mernda’s trip to Lalor, where the Bloods regain Daniel Moore among seven changes.

Selected teams for the NFNL Women’s competition will be named in the lead-up to each match.
